Our belts

We source high quality English bridle leather to craft a strap that’s made to last. Our buckles are brass on the inside and powder-coated on the outside for an unexpected pop. Put them both together and you get the winning combination of classic lines with luxurious flavor. As a center bar buckle or heel bar buckle, our hardware comes in five colors:

Lava
Lilac
Pillow
Surf
Turf

Our leather straps come in natural or black, with two widths to choose from, 1.5 in or 1.25 in.

Our Story

We’re serious about color and fanatical about design, so we build our belts to pack a punch. Utterly underwhelmed by flavorless belts that let us—and our pants—down, we set out to master the recipe of leather and hardware on our own. One part sturdy strap, one part beautiful buckle, a splash of color, and you’ve got a Fruit Punch party.

Joe Tom

The seeds of Fruit Punch were planted in a Master of Architecture program where Joe Bashaw and Tom Mulica bonded over their shared love of the built environment. Joe’s obsession with craftsmanship and intentional beauty complimented Tom’s zeal for mastering the equation of utility and joy. After graduating they teamed up to design multi-million dollar homes across the U.S., from ski chalets in Colorado, to beach bungalows in California.

Like most delicious things in life, Fruit Punch is a mélange of flavors—Joe brings a touch of the craft world of Portland and Tom adds a dose of the San Diego beach scene. A former Army intelligence officer turned hobbyist beekeeper, it’s easy to imagine Joe as a bit character on Portlandia. When he’s not agonizing over hand-carved walnut built-ins, he tends his garden, advocates for insects, and builds his own bikes. Like most things in life, he became an expert leathersmith pretty quickly—in part so he could say he was a smith of some kind (otherwise Portland might kick him out). He’s the reason our belts are made from the highest caliber of English bridle leather, aka the queen’s leather.

Tom, on the other hand, is the color guru behind our powder-coated buckles. Maybe it was the seasonal affective disorder, but while living in Seattle, Tom grew obsessive over a finely tuned shade of blue, slaving over the right color balance that mimicked the shred of sky that grey clouds obscured. After moving to San Diego he took his fixation to a new level and started powder coating his furniture. Tom himself is bright and shiny like his favorite buckle; he’s the improv guy, the guy who can make you giggle in just a few words. He cherishes human foibles and the oddities that make us unique. Full of equal parts wisdom and wonder, Tom gravitated toward teaching and inspires college students to pursue their passion for architectural history.
